For Tampa Bay area students, summer break is just week away. While many will be planning for vacations, an increasing number of graduating high school seniors will be heading to college during the summer semester. As these students pick out classes and purchases books, many will also be looking to furnish dorm rooms or first apartments.

For those on a budget, thrifting at stores like the Suncoast Hospice Resale Shop can be a great way to find both essential items and décor. Here are our top items to look for:

  • Small electronics. Television sets, vacuums, coffee makers and more. Our volunteers test all electric items so customers can be assured the item they are bringing home is in working order.
  • Dishes and other kitchen items. Plates, bowls and coffee mugs are always in stock for a fraction of retail prices. Other common items we’ve seen include cooking utensils, pots/pans and mixing bowls.
  • Furniture and décor. All three of our stores offer furniture including sofas, chairs, chests of drawers and kitchen table sets. These gently-used pieces can be great finds for anyone on a budget – especially if you shop during the Furniture Friday sale!

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to make a fresh start, consider shopping or donating to the Suncoast Hospice Resale Shops. Every dollar spent in one of our three locations goes back to helping families in our community who are facing chronic or advanced illness or are grieving.
